Participates in the general Finite Element design analysis of new and existing construction products. Performs modeling and simulation support for vibration/fatigue on various structural components for off-road vehicular equipment or machinery. Develops Finite Element simulation models using Hyperworks, Abaqus, and nCode for the evaluation of engineering designs. Makes recommendations to peers and direct manager based on sound engineering principles, practices and judgment pertaining to fatigue/vibration problems as a contribution to the overall engineering and manufacturing objectives. Develops specific project planning that includes project objectives, deliverable, budget, resources, milestones and project timeline. Participates in meetings with project and platform managers to understand the scope of the analysis, specifications of the components and objectives of a project. Travels to other sites of the company to provide engineering support and participate in testing to validate the simulation work. Proposes solution, assumes overall responsibility for the project and serves as the main contact person for the project updates. Remains current and well informed on FEA, Fatigue and Vibration methodologies and technologies germane to the company's industry through personal research, training and seminar participation. Maintains and consistently applies knowledge of current technology, procedures, and standards. Recommends updates to the methodology, procedures and standards for the improvement of department productivity and customer satisfaction. Applies knowledge gained through training on Fatigue, Vibration and Simulation procedures for efficient modeling. Develops and authors the standard documentation to perform design analysis and simulation. Updates the standard documentation to perform design analysis and simulation. May serve as Lead Engineer. Coordinates the activities of other engineers, contractors and vendors as needed. Coordinates off-road vehicular equipment or machinery projects relating to Computational Fluid Dynamics, Multi Body Dynamics, System Simulation and Ergonomics. Establishes and maintains a detailed work breakdown and schedule for portions of FEA projects involving off-road vehicular equipment or machinery. Works with the managers and development team to determine the contents of milestones and incorporate this data into the schedule. Travel required: 20% domestically to other company locations.
Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as an Engineer-Off-Road Vehicular Equipment or Machinery. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience, the employer will accept a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and three (3) years of experience as an Engineer-Off-Road Vehicular Equipment or Machinery. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience or a Master's degree and three years of experience. As part of the experience being required, applicants must have had: experience with FEA techniques for static, modal analysis, non-linear FEA, inertia relief and response analysis; experience developing Finite Element models, and performing calculations and analysis to determine fatigue life and conformance to the requirements with sound engineering judgment, using appropriate procedures and tools, including Hyperworks, Abaqus, and nCode; experience in analyzing, reviewing and approving designs of welded, cast and fabricated structural components and recommending modifications of components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications; experience analyzing components and assemblies of chassis, undercarriage, driveline components and after treatment systems and in conducting ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structures), and FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structures) analysis of off-road vehicular equipment or machinery, including dozers, skid steer loaders and tractor loader backhoes; experience in implementing structural analysis techniques, including Classical or Finite Element stress analysis, fatigue, vibration, test signal and strain data processing for off-road vehicular equipment or machinery, including dozers, skid steer loaders and tractor loader backhoes; experience in developing testing requirements, proposing strain gage and accelerometer locations, and in correlating test data with FEA results to ensure that structural system components meet specifications; experience in performing linear and non-linear structural analysis of vehicle structures and components, including geometric and material non linearity, non-linear contact analysis and bolt joint analysis subject to static and dynamic loadings, including response analysis and inertia relief analysis for structural reliability; experience in the implementation of efficient structural design concepts in consultation with product groups to determine the best design alternatives; and experience working with and supporting cross functional teams related to product, design, analysis and manufacturing.
